Revise: Class distinctionsThe upper, middle and working classes were broad groups, not three identical sets of households. A successful doctor and a junior clerk could both be middle class but have very different incomes. Similarly, a skilled worker with regular employment was usually more secure than an unskilled labourer dependent on irregular work.
