Revise: Class distinctionsThe upper class included aristocrats, country squires and wealthy factory owners and industrialists. Land, inherited wealth or business fortunes gave them considerable social and political influence. Their wealth could support country houses, comfortable accommodation in cities and extensive leisure rather than dependence on an ordinary wage.
