Revise: The English Successions and the Settlement of IrelandTheir supporters are called Jacobites and Williamites respectively. Their aims were not identical within each camp. James wanted to use Ireland as a base to regain his English throne; Irish Catholic supporters also wanted to recover land and political influence.
Explain significance through consequences: Williamite victory secured William’s crown, removed Ireland as a base for restoring James and strengthened Protestant control of Ireland.
