Revise: The Process of Dissolution and the Valor EcclesiasticusIn 1535, Cromwell organised the Valor Ecclesiasticus, meaning ‘Value of the Church’. This survey assessed Church property and income. It was connected to the collection of First Fruits and Tenths, payments of Church income which now went to the Crown rather than Rome.
Distinguish the two investigations of 1535: the Valor Ecclesiasticus assessed wealth and income; the visitations investigated religious conduct.
