Taínos

The Taínos, Indigenous peoples living on islands including Cuba and Hispaniola, helped the expedition. Columbus’s account presented some Taínos as believing the Spaniards were ‘men from the sky’. Such descriptions need to be understood as European accounts of Indigenous beliefs, rather than evidence that every Taíno community reacted in the same way.
