Paper 2
Revise: Columbus Reaches the AmericasWith less space to carry his crew back to Spain, he left 39 men in Guacanagarí’s town on the northern coast of Hispaniola, near present-day Cap-Haïtien in Haiti. This small settlement became La Navidad.
Explain La Navidad through a causal sequence: the shipwreck reduced transport capacity, so Columbus left men behind to establish a fortified base and search for gold.
