Spolia opima

He addressed Jupiter by the title Jupiter Feretrius and dedicated a temple to receive the spolia opima: the arms taken from enemy leaders personally killed in battle by victorious Roman commanders. Livy calls this the first temple dedicated in Rome. Romulus’ offering both honoured the god and publicly celebrated his own victory, creating a religious precedent for future commanders.
