Revise: Numa Pompilius and Roman Religious IdentityHe appointed a flamen of Jupiter, with distinctive clothing and the royal curule chair, and additional flamens for Mars and Quirinus. These appointments preserved worship even when the king was absent. They also show that Numa’s peaceful government did not mean abandoning Rome’s military religious traditions: Mars still received organised worship.
