Revise: Colonisation in North AmericaThe settlers commonly called the Pilgrim Fathers founded Plymouth Colony in New England in 1620. Their leading religious group consisted of Separatists: unlike Puritans who hoped to reform the Church of England, they believed they needed to leave it and form separate congregations. Harassment, fines and imprisonment encouraged members of their congregation to leave England for the Netherlands.
