Sack

The sack was a major Persian victory and caused alarm among the Greek commanders at Salamis. However, the loss of Athens did not destroy the Athenian fleet or end resistance. Capturing the city was not the same as conquering all the resisting Greek states.

The sack affected inhabitants as well as soldiers: capturing Jerusalem was not merely a military victory over its garrison.
