Royal Almoner

In 1509, Wolsey became Royal Almoner, responsible for distributing the king’s charitable gifts. This gave him access to Henry and an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities. Henry wanted advisers of his own rather than simply relying on those inherited from his father.
