Revise: Wolsey’s Foreign PolicyIn 1513, Henry invaded France and won a modest victory at the Battle of the Spurs with support from Emperor Maximilian I. This brought military prestige, but did not make Henry king of France.

Revise: Elizabethan Warfare and Border SocietyA ruler’s prestige was not the same thing as the Crown’s ability to pay its bills.
Link each event to an aim: did it bring Henry prestige, military gains, lasting peace or greater influence?
Distinguish diplomatic prestige from lasting results. The Treaty of London and the Field of the Cloth of Gold raised England’s profile, but did not prevent renewed war.
Distinguish the monarch’s prestige from the Crown’s financial strength: success in war need not make government wealthier.
