Paper 1
Revise: Changes in law enforcementPolice Community Support Officers (PCSOs) were introduced in 2002. Their visible neighbourhood patrols and work on anti-social behaviour aimed to reassure residents and strengthen contact between the police and the public. They supported police constables but had more limited powers.
Use dated examples to support change, such as the fingerprint register in 1901, the Police National Computer in 1974 and PCSOs in 2002.
