Paramilitary group

Loyalist paramilitary groups, including the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) and Ulster Defence Association (UDA), sought to preserve Northern Ireland’s place in the UK and attacked Catholic communities. These armed organisations did not represent everyone within either community.
