Revise: Expansion of EmpireLas Casas used his experience of colonial society to condemn violence and exploitation. He pressed for legislation rather than relying only on individual colonists to change their behaviour. His campaigning helped encourage the reforms known as the New Laws.
For the New Laws, separate their aims from their results: legal protection did not mean exploitation ended.
