Revise: CortésOne was Malinali, usually known as Malinche and later called Doña Marina. She spoke both Maya and Nahuatl. Her language skills, combined with Aguilar’s, created a chain of interpretation: Cortés could speak Spanish to Aguilar, Aguilar could translate into Maya for Malinche, and Malinche could translate into Nahuatl.
