Revise: Policies Towards WomenIn 1935, SS leader Heinrich Himmler established the Lebensborn programme. It encouraged births among people who met Nazi racial criteria and provided special homes supporting mothers and babies, including unmarried mothers. Women were encouraged to have children with SS men regarded by the regime as racially suitable.
