Revise: Opposition to Civil RightsThe Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was a white supremacist organisation. Its members believed in white dominance and used terror to resist greater equality for Black Americans. After the Brown ruling, Klan membership and activity increased.
Distinguish the groups: the KKK used terror, White Citizens’ Councils used economic and social pressure, and Dixiecrats opposed desegregation through politics.
Do not assume that every racist murder was committed by the KKK.
