Revise: The Castle as a Centre for Administration and LivingAdministration means organising people and resources; justice means applying laws and settling disputes. These are related but distinct functions. A lord’s household needed management even when its owner was absent, whereas judicial activity concerned legal authority rather than simply running a home.
Distinguish estate administration from justice. Use the 1313 payments for court records and named prisoners as evidence of judicial functions; do not invent their offences or assume that every prisoner was tried at Kenilworth.
