Internal migration

Internal migration means moving within the same country. For an illustrative example, someone moving from one British town to another to take a job is an internal migrant, even though they have not crossed a national border.

Movement from the British countryside to a British town was internal migration. It helped transform Britain, but it must be distinguished from migration into Britain from another country.
