Revise: Society during the DepressionSome families lost their homes and moved into makeshift settlements built from scrap wood, metal and other discarded materials. These became known as Hoovervilles, a deliberate accusation that Hoover was responsible for their suffering. Poor sanitation and inadequate shelter made life unhealthy as well as uncomfortable.
