Revise: The British Sector and the Trench SystemThe front-line trench faced no-man’s-land and was used to defend the position and launch attacks. Behind it, the support trench provided somewhere for troops to retreat and reorganise. Further back, reserve trenches held resting troops and forces that could counter-attack if the front line was captured.
