Revise: The Aftermath of the First Punic WarThe First Punic War (264–241 BC) changed the relationship between Rome and Carthage. Before the war, they were wary rivals but had also cooperated. Rome’s power was based in Italy, while Carthage possessed a powerful navy and territories and naval bases across the western Mediterranean.
Keep the original peace settlement separate from later Roman actions: Sardinia and Corsica were taken after the First Punic War, not surrendered under the original Treaty of Lutatius.
