Revise: Struggle for PowerStalin accused the opposition of factionalism, using Lenin’s 1921 ban on organised factions to portray their challenge as disloyalty to the party rather than ordinary debate. All three were expelled from the party in 1927. Trotsky withdrew from Soviet politics and went into exile.
