A military manoeuvre in which forces move around an enemy’s sides to attack from more than one direction.
Revise: Persian Invasions of Greece: 493–490 BCThe Persians broke through the Greek centre, but the stronger Greek wings defeated the forces facing them. They then turned inwards against the Persians in the middle. This envelopment exposed the Persian force to attack from the sides and reversed its apparent success in the centre.
