Paper 1
Revise: Anglo-German RivalryBritain gradually moved towards cooperation with other powers. It made an alliance with Japan in 1902, reached the Entente Cordiale with France in 1904, and signed the Anglo-Russian Convention in 1907. The French agreement settled colonial disputes, while the Russian agreement reduced tensions over Persia, Afghanistan and Tibet.
Distinguish agreements from military alliances: the Entente Cordiale settled colonial disputes; it did not automatically commit Britain to fight a European war.
