Emirate

In 1996, the Taliban captured Kabul and established an Islamic Emirate. However, the establishment of Taliban rule did not mean that resistance had ended. Ahmad Shah Massoud and other opponents continued fighting through the Northern Alliance, which included Tajiks, Uzbeks and Hazaras.
