Elixir

Alchemists searched for an elixir, a supposedly magical liquid that would prolong life indefinitely, and for a medicine that could cure any disease. These aims were not achieved. However, their work on extracting chemicals, mixing substances and developing equipment helped lay foundations for chemistry.
