Paper 1
Revise: The Great Leap Forward and the Dazhai CommuneDazhai, in Xiyang County, Shanxi province, provides a case study of Mao’s economic ideals. Although often called the Dazhai Commune, the community promoted nationally was a rural production brigade within the collective system.
Use Dazhai’s location, Chen Yonggui’s leadership, terracing and Mao’s 1964 slogan as specific evidence—not simply the phrase ‘model commune’.
Keep the chronology clear: Dazhai became a national model in 1964, after the Great Leap Forward’s main disaster.
Treat famine death totals as estimates and Dazhai’s self-reliance as a promoted claim, rather than unquestionable proof of nationwide success.
