Revise: The Nature of CrusadingEuropean knights captured Jerusalem and other territories, creating crusader states ruled by Christian lords. These conquests involved the killing of many Muslims and Jews. Crusading was therefore both a religious undertaking and a violent struggle for territory: what crusaders regarded as sacred duty brought warfare to other communities.
