Revise: Consolidation of Nazi PowerHitler presented the fire as evidence that Germany faced a communist revolution. He persuaded Hindenburg to issue the Reichstag Fire Decree, formally the Decree for the Protection of the People and the State. It suspended civil liberties: the basic freedoms and legal protections that limited what the government could do to individuals.
