Revise: Foundations and the Reign of RomulusRomulus also maintained the Celeres, a personal armed guard of 300 men, even in peacetime. Unlike the wider citizen organisation, this force served the king directly.
Do not confuse the 12 lictors with the 300 Celeres. Both supported royal authority, but they were different groups.
