Revise: Situation on AccessionMany Catholics did not accept that Henry’s first marriage had validly ended. They therefore rejected his marriage to Anne and regarded their daughter Elizabeth as illegitimate. In 1536, after Anne was executed for treason, Henry also declared Elizabeth illegitimate.
