Revise: Aldershot Garrison, 1854 to PresentOn 8 March 1901, the Secretary of State for War, St John Brodrick, proposed dividing the country into six army corps districts. Troops would train under the commanders who would lead them in war, rather than being assembled hastily from unfamiliar units when a conflict began. Brodrick announced that the first army corps would be at Aldershot, complete except for its reservists.
