Revise: Dealing with DiseaseA clear example of Hunter's scientific approach was his successful operation in 1785 for a popliteal aneurysm: an abnormal widening of the artery behind the knee. The usual treatment was amputation. Instead, Hunter tied off the femoral artery at a healthy point in the thigh, above the aneurysm.
