Revise: Sustainable Management of Tropical RainforestsThe Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) adds a system of checks. It is a voluntary scheme overseen by the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC). Independent certification bodies audit forest management against standards and decide whether to grant, suspend or withdraw a certificate.
Do not confuse timber certification with permission to log: state governments control forest resources, while independent certification bodies assess management.
