Sample size

Sample size affects how much evidence an enquiry has. Asking only ten people in a busy town centre provides a limited range of responses. More observations can strengthen the evidence, but where and when they are collected also matter.

Sample size is the number of observations, measurements or responses collected. Repeated counts at one site and counts at several different sites both increase sample size, but serve different purposes: repeats help assess consistency, while additional sites improve spatial coverage.
