Distinguish a proportion from an amount. A larger percentage does not necessarily mean a larger volume of water.

Globally, about 70% of water use is agricultural, 20% industrial and 10% domestic. These are worldwide proportions, not percentages that apply to every country. A country's pattern depends on its economy, farming systems, living standards and access to water.
