The improvement of an area through investment in its economy, buildings, infrastructure and community facilities.
Revise: UK Infrastructure and the North–South DivideFrom 2025, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands were among the first areas to receive integrated settlements: combined, multi-year budgets that allow transport, training and regeneration spending to be coordinated. The intention is to match investment more closely to local needs.

Revise: Population and Economic ChallengesRegeneration means renewing an area’s environment, buildings and economic opportunities, rather than simply constructing something new.

The renewal of an area that has experienced decline, through investment, rebuilding or redevelopment.
Revise: Processes of Urban Growth and ChangeRegeneration renews areas that have experienced decline through investment, rebuilding or redevelopment. For example, an old factory can be converted into apartments, giving an unused industrial building a new residential purpose.
Do not assume regeneration benefits everyone equally: improved housing and services can also make an area less affordable.
