Shopping-centre development in and around London has also redeveloped brownfield sites. This is an actual land-use change: previously developed land has been reused for retailing, rather than remaining unused or retaining its former purpose. The growth of shopping centres has therefore changed peripheral areas as well as the pattern of shopping trips.
