Revise: Plate Tectonics and Plate MarginsHotspots can supply magma to volcanoes within plates, away from their edges. A useful description therefore combines the overall pattern, named locations and exceptions; ‘all volcanoes are on plate margins’ would miss an important part of the distribution.
