Revise: River Profiles and Fluvial ProcessesA long profile is a side view along the length of a river. It shows how the river’s height and gradient change from source to mouth. Gradient means steepness: a large fall in height over a short distance gives a steep gradient.
- Revise: Coordinates, Scale and Distance in OS Maps
The steepness of a slope, calculated from its vertical height change and horizontal distance.
- Revise: Specialised Cartographic Skills: Isolines, Choropleths and Flow Lines
The rate at which a value changes with distance. On a contour map, gradient describes how steeply the land rises or falls.
