A greenhouse gas released by burning fossil fuels and wood, and by industrial processes such as cement production. Plants remove it from the atmosphere through photosynthesis.

Revise: Causes of Human-Induced Climate ChangeSome is absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, including carbon dioxide and methane. These gases re-emit energy in different directions, including back towards the surface. This keeps the surface and lower atmosphere warmer than they would otherwise be.
For an explanation, link the activity to a named gas and then to warming: burning coal → more carbon dioxide → more outgoing long-wave radiation absorbed → higher average global temperature.
Use specific farming examples: cattle digestion and flooded rice paddies release methane. Clearing and burning forests contributes to carbon dioxide.
