Revise: Dietary MineralsIn its 1991 UK guidance, the Committee on Medical Aspects of Food and Nutrition Policy (COMA) did not set an RNI because no physiological requirement for fluoride had been established. Instead, it set a safe intake. This type of reference value is used when evidence is insufficient to set a requirement-based value; it describes an intake judged adequate and below levels associated with undesirable effects.
