Component 1
Revise: The first moving images and silent cinemaThe Eduqas timeline identifies 1895–1927 as the period in which silent cinema developed from early short films to full-length feature films. A feature film could sustain a much longer narrative, with developed characters, conflicts and changes in relationships. By the 1910s, films lasting 90 minutes or more were becoming established.
Keep the key timeline points distinct: 1895 is the Lumière brothers milestone; 1895–1927 is the period of silent cinema’s development in the Eduqas timeline.
Distinguish a film’s release date from its setting: Singin’ in the Rain was released in 1952 but looks back to the transition from silent cinema to sound.
