The rhythm created by the duration of shots and the frequency of transitions between them.

The pace of editing depends on shot duration and how frequently shots change. A succession of short shots can create urgency, excitement or confusion. Longer shots can give us time to examine a setting, study a reaction or wait uneasily for something to happen.
