Empathy

The science-fiction bond makes empathy concrete: Elliott actually experiences E.T.’s feelings and physical responses. In the classroom sequence, while E.T. explores the refrigerator at home, Elliott experiences the effects of the alien drinking beer. Elliott also releases frogs intended for dissection.
