Victor can therefore be read as a Romantic overreacher, an exceptional individual whose passionate ambition exceeds human or moral limits. His imagination and determination are impressive, but he allows them to displace affection, balance and responsibility. Shelley questions ambition pursued without care, rather than making every form of knowledge inherently evil.
