Revise: We RefugeesBenjamin Zephaniah’s We Refugees (2000) asks readers to recognise refugees as people with cultures, families and valued homes, rather than as an unfamiliar group separate from themselves. Its repeated descriptions of beautiful places are followed by accounts of violence, discrimination and disaster. Leaving is presented not as rejection of a homeland but as a necessity for survival.
