Her fear becomes clearer when she describes his ‘profligate heat’ (line 6). ‘Profligate’ means extravagant or wasteful: he seems to pour out warmth without restraint. The repetition ‘gave / out, gave out’ (lines 6–7) suggests a continuing release of energy that she watches anxiously.
